What’s the difference between Dry Ice Blasting, Vapour Blasting, & Media Blasting
Each method has a different purpose depending on the condition of the vehicle and the type of contamination or corrosion present.
Dry ice blasting is best for gentle cleaning and removing dirt, grease and old coatings without moisture or abrasion.
Vapour blasting is ideal for restoring metal parts and components with a smoother finish.
Media blasting is used where heavier corrosion, old coatings or tougher surface preparation work is needed.
We often combine methods to get the best result for each vehicle.
How much does underbody cleaning, blasting or rust proofing cost?
Pricing depends on the size, condition and underside access of the vehicle, as well as the amount of preparation required. We can give guide prices online, but every vehicle should be inspected first before an exact quote is confirmed. That’s why we offer a free underbody inspection at our Blantyre workshop.
How long does rust proofing or underbody protection take
Most underbody cleaning jobs take around 2-3 days depending on the size and condition of the vehicle. More involved rust proofing, preparation and protective coating work can take longer, especially where older coatings, corrosion or additional stripping are involved.
Can you remove rust completely from a vehicle underside
That depends on how advanced the corrosion is. Dry ice blasting is excellent for removing dirt, grease, loose rust and old underseal, but it does not remove deep or structural corrosion on its own. Where needed, we use more aggressive preparation methods such as media blasting, followed by rust treatment and protective coatings. The aim is always to clean, stabilise and protect the underside properly based on the vehicle’s condition
Do you work on vans, campervans and long wheelbase vehicles
Yes. Our workshop is equipped with a long wheelbase ramp capable of lifting larger vehicles up to 8 tons. We regularly work on vans, campervans, caravans and other larger vehicles that need underbody cleaning, rust treatment or protective coating work.
Do you apply underseal and rust protection coatings
Yes. After cleaning and preparation, we apply a range of underseal and rust protection coatings depending on the vehicle, its condition and the type of finish required. That can include clear coatings for classics, darker protective finishes for daily drivers and 4x4s, and lanolin-based products where appropriate.
All coatings are selected to provide long-term protection against moisture, salt and corrosion, especially in Scottish conditions.
Is dry ice blasting safe for vehicle underbodies
Yes. Dry ice blasting is non-abrasive, chemical-free and moisture-free, which makes it a safe and effective cleaning method for many vehicle underbodies, engine bays and components. It is especially useful where you want to remove contamination and old residue without damaging surrounding parts.
What is lanolin underseal?
Lanolin underseal is a rust protection coating made from lanolin, a natural wax derived from wool grease. It stays flexible, creeps into seams and joins, and helps repel moisture and salt. It is a popular option for ongoing underbody protection because it does not dry out and crack in the same way as some harder coatings can.
Do you use lanolin underseal?
Yes, we use lanolin-based underseal products where they are suitable for the vehicle and the type of protection required. Lanolin underseal can work well for long-term corrosion prevention, especially where a flexible, moisture-resistant coating is preferred. Product choice always depends on the condition of the underside and the customer’s goals.
Do you offer Waxoyl underseal?
Yes, we can discuss Waxoyl underseal as part of the protection options available for your vehicle. The right product depends on the condition of the underside, the level of preparation required and the type of finish you want. We always recommend the most suitable protection system after inspecting the vehicle properly.
What’s the difference between Waxoyl and lanolin underseal?
Waxoyl and lanolin underseal are both used for rust protection, but they behave differently. Lanolin-based underseal stays softer and more flexible, which helps it creep into seams and resist cracking. Wax-based products can also provide effective protection, but the right choice depends on the vehicle, the condition underneath and how the vehicle is used. We choose coatings based on what will give the best long-term result, not just brand name.
